It is designed to give the highest accuracy and reliability in\r\nextreme conditions. An ETS \/ HTS typically measures temperatures up to\r\n900-Degrees Celsius in the exhaust system of the vehicle. The sensing element\r\nchanges in resistance with changes in temperature. The engine computer\r\nmeasures the resistance and calculates the temperature. Depending on the\r\nlocation of the ETS\/HTS, the engine computer uses the temperature information\r\nto control a wide variety of processes in the vehicle. These processes include\r\nparticulate filter regeneration, selective catalytic reduction (SCR), exhaust\r\ngas recirculation, turbo boost, and overall engine combustion. The Walker ETS\r\n\/ HTS utilizes an OE construction consisting of high temperature metals and\r\nceramics. This allows the Walker sensors to deliver stable and accurate output\r\ndespite the heat, vibration and contamination found in the exhaust. Most ETS \/\r\nHTS are used to monitor the particulate filter. In these cases, failure to\r\nreplace a defective ETS \/ HTS will result in an obstructed filter and possible\r\nengine damage.
